Summary: the AGIS project allowed to elaborate a descriptive map o liberty deprivation in Europe in order to detect its main problems. There was also made a comparative analysis of the ombudsman figure in Europe and its functions regarding deprivation of liberty to study the viability of a penitentiary ombudsman in different European contexts. On a first stage of the Project we advised it would be necessary to create mechanisms for guaranteeing the rights of persons deprived of their liberty considering their living conditions. In the last stage it was made a deeper study about the viability of a penitentiary ombudsman as a mechanism to guarantee the rights of people deprived of their liberty.
