Summary: The organization of urban space is an outstanding field regarding the management of post-industriall cities. This project aims to evaluate through a deep, critical and comprehensive research how the city councils try to manage urban space in a sanctionatory or punitive way, through a number of institutional actions. In order to do this we will pay special attention to the effective implementation of the controversial Ordenança de measures per fomentar i garantir la convivència ciutadana a l’espai public de Barcelona This analysis will focuson the consequences of the implementation of the sanctions proposed by this regulation and its connection with the promotion of good citizenship. Finally, we are going propose a number of particular measures directed to reorient urban control policies through equilibrated, socially inclusive and democratically sentient formulas.
